Locations & Operations

The E-BikeKit™ Company occupies two locations in historic Lambertville, New Jersey near the banks of the Delaware River

The sales office at 4 S Union Street is in the heart of the town at the main intersections of Bridge and Union streets. The warehouse, workshop and shipping facility is much more interesting and is located in the ironically named "Spoke Works" building at 204 N Union Street. This historic property was first built in 1850, as a spoke mill! Today this is where product modifications, testing and quality control takes place for the E-BikeKit™ Company.

Building Wheels by Hand Once Again

All E-BikeKit wheels will are built by hand in the Lambertville, New Jersey Spoke Works building.  Assembling conversion kits and building wheels in a converted spoke factory sets E-BikeKit apart from any of its competitors.  Jason Kraft, Principal of E-BikeKit said, "We source some of the kit parts from overseas, some from Canada and some from US manufacturers, but the final assembly, testing and quality control is done right here in the USA.  As far as I know, no other conversion kit can boast hand-built wheels".

The Spoke Works business was started in 1850 and operated building wagon wheels as long as it could.  Pressure from railways and later motor vehicles would push them out of business forcing the property at various points to produce cans, luggage and leather products.  E-BikeKit is revitalizing the building's namesake with every wheel built and every e-bike conversion kit shipped. "Our goal is to deliver the highest quality conversion system at the fairest price" said Jason. "Building the wheels by hand ensures a positive experience for e-bike newcomers".

Beyond building wheels again the Spoke Works building had a recent renovation that the building owner and tenants are incredibly proud of.  216 solar panels were installed on the roof producing 60,000 Kilowatt hours of electricity or more than 70% of the buildings total energy usage.  With that level of self-sustaining technology the Spoke Works building is more advanced than most of the commercial buildings in America and is sure to be building wheels for a long time to come.

Here is a recent news release on the building, the building's owner and his forward thinking energy conservation initiatives...Our building is now SOLAR Powered!

PRESS RELEASE: Lambertville, NJ August 2009 - Historical Building Goes Green

MSMJ Associates, owner of The Spoke Works at 204 North Union Street in Lambertville, is taking a leading role in energy generation and conservation in Lambertville. A new TPO roofing system and insulation has been installed by C & C Roofing of Willow Grove, in preparation for the installation of a 50 kilowatt PV solar panel generation project. The system will consist of 200 panels, ballast mounted on the roof. This will be the largest private installation in the area. The installation will provide approximately 61,250 kilowatt-hours per year, enough to power 6 average homes. This will enable over seventy percent of the site’s power to be generated locally. The project, suggested by David Rago, is being managed by Steven Frank, of MSMJ.

MSMJ found several compelling reasons for the installation. Local alternative power generation is the most positive and direct answer to many environmental concerns. It reduces our dependence on fossil and nuclear fuels, as well as eliminating the need for power transmission over “the grid”. Federal and local financial incentives allow a small company such as this to afford the project, and eventually achieve positive cash flow. Additionally, the project just feels good.

Renovations commenced four years ago. The renovations were designed to preserve the building aesthetics, while creatively re-utilizing existing space, and upgrading insulation and mechanicals to modern standards. Frank has created a contemporary building with historic integrity, by keeping many of the older features such as preserving large cast iron windows, original wood floors, and detailing existing facade. This ongoing project shall near completion in early fall when the installation is finished by Advanced Solar Systems of Stockton.

This historic property was first built in 1850, as a spoke mill. It later became a cannery, which was nearly destroyed by fire in the 1930’s. In 1950 it became a luggage factory. When Frank, of Haycock Township, PA, bought the building in 1985, he used it for leather goods manufacturing. Later he leased the building and relocated his business.

It’s currently houses Sollo-Rago’s auction annex, E-Bike Kit LLC, Pellegrino Signs, and Pellegrino/Shill Art Gallery.
