The SLA batteries are the most common and least expensive batteries for E-Bikes. Pictured below is the E-BikeKit™ SLA pack and rear rack battery bag.
Life Cycle: 300-400 (this is the number of times the battery can be recharged)
Weight: 36Volt SLA = 26 pounds / 48Volt SLA = 35 pounds
Lead Acid Batteries need to be recharged immediately after EVERY use. They hate to be left in a discharged state, even if they are only slightly discharged. Again, THEY HATE TO BE LEFT IN A DISCHARGED STATE! So, if you forget to recharge your batteries, leaving them drained for even one day, you WILL damage them, and they will soon begin to give poor performance. Batteries are not covered by the kit warranty.
All batteries come with an intelligent recharger. There's an LED indicator light to alert you when the battery is fully charged.

Rules of thumb:
Compatibility between E-Bike Kits and batteries is based on voltage. If the kit is 36V then the battery needs to be 36V. If the kit is 48V then the battery should be 48V.
Get a battery pack that goes at least twice the range you usually expect to ride.
Range is proportional to battery size; more watts = more distance. Twice the battery size(Watts) = twice the range. For every two miles you go, plan on about one hour of charging and about one cent of electricity. When speed increases, range decreases even faster; 1/3 faster = 1/2 the range.
How long does it take to charge SLA batteries?
Depending upon the degree of discharge, it will take 4-6 hours to charge the 36V 500W battery pack and 6-8 hours to fully charge the 48V 1000W battery pack..
Can batteries be damaged by leaving them plugged into the charger too long?
No. The battery charger that comes with your E-BikeKit™ is an intelligent charger. It will shut itself off when your battery pack reaches a full charge, but it is always a good idea NOT to leave your battery pack plugged in all the time. Just unplug the charger when the charger light is green.
How many charges can my battery pack take?
SLA batteries can be charged and discharged up to about 300 times. But you must do some things in order to get the maximum life out of your SLA battery pack: ALWAYS, we repeat - ALWAYS charge your batteries up IMMEDIATELY after EVERY use! Sealed lead acid batteries hate to be left discharged, even for only a few hours, so plug your battery pack into the smart charger immediately after every use. Also, try not to run your batteries completely dead, for this will diminish their life cycle.
