HOW ELECTRIC BIKES WORK
E-bikes work by assisting your pedaling with electric powered brushless hub propulsion technology.
If you own a conventional bicycle, you can easily replace your front wheel with an E-BikeKit™ brushless hub motor conversion kit wheel. The E-BikeKit™ brushless hub motor wheel utilizes battery powered electric current to assist your natural pedaling. Using either a thumb or twist throttle you control the flow of electric current from the battery to the hub motor. With an intelligent 30 Amp controller regulating the current between the hub motor and the battery you are in command of how much or how little propulsion power to use at any time.
The E-BikeKit™ also uses a brake handle with an electric switch to let the hub know when you are braking. When the brake is engaged the brushless hub is automatically released from any pull or resistance. in addition the hub now acts in a regenerative capacity actually returning a small percentage of energy through the controller and back into your battery. This regenerative property is small and almost negligible but what is most important is that by using the internal electric switch brake the hub becomes a complete free spinning wheel and in contrast to older technology brushed motors, there is zero resistance. There is also no negative effect or resistance if the motor is engaged at speeds higher than advertised "top speeds".
The E-BikeKit™ is designed with rider convenience and energy efficiency in mind. Of course the parameters and expected performance of both the hub motor and the battery are all dependent on the battery type, the weight of the rider, the route and the weather conditions during any particular ride. The bottom line is that all of these factors will ultimately contribute to the final equation determining range per charge, top speed, torque and battery life cycle. There are several ways to increase efficiencies and overall performance of your e-bike.
Here are a few steps you can take to maximize performance and extend your
"e-bike investment":
- Pedal more and use the battery less ...simple enough. Utilize the motor during the toughest parts of your route only and your range will increase greatly.
- Do NOT use the motor from a "dead start". Only engage the throttle after reaching speeds of 5MPH or more. This will drastically increase your range and power efficiency.
- Charge your batteries after use, especially if you are using SLA batteries. Sealed Lead Acid Batteries need to be recharged immediately after EVERY use. They hate to be left in a discharged state, even if they are only slightly discharged.Even if you forget to recharge your batteries, leaving them drained for even one day, you WILL damage them, and they will soon begin to give poor performance.
